Plans are in the works for a $250 million project to create 1,000 new apartments in Detroit’s Midtown, TechTown and New Center.

The project is from a new development company called the Platform and involves developer Peter Cummings, Detroit News columnist Nolan Finley reported.

The partnership aims to take advantage of Detroit’s light rail line, which opens next year. The $140 million rail project will extend 3.3 miles from Detroit’s downtown riverfront. Cummings’ plans include new construction and renovated buildings within walking distance of the tracks.

Cummings says: “Detroit is a really hot investment opportunity, and getting better.”

Plans involve the Fisher and Kahn buildings in New Center. Cummings says the Platform also will help revive targeted commercial strips in Brightmoor and other areas.
